I was born in New York City to Salvadoran parents. My experience growing up bilingual, and in a community of multiple cultures, influenced my ability to view situations from different perspectives and to appreciate those differences.
I earned my Master in Social Work Degree from New York University and I have over twenty-five years of post-graduate experience as a psychotherapist. I began my mental health career working for a non-profit clinic providing psychotherapy services to children, couples, adults, families and groups. At the same time, I developed and grew a successful private practice in Brooklyn, NY. During my time in NYC, I also worked in a hospital-based Rape Crisis/Victims of Violence program, providing psychotherapy and emergency room support services to survivors and their families. In 2006, I moved with my family to Charlotte, NC and opened my current private practice a year later.
I value self-care as an integral part of living a happy, healthy, balanced life and regularly incorporate personal growth activities into my own daily life. I enjoy exercise, yoga, cooking, reading, and spending time with my family. I can often be found walking with my rescue dog.
I'm passionate about the work I do and keep current by regularly participating in continuing education/training in Couple’s therapy, infidelity recovery, cultural awareness/humility, stress management, managing depression and anxiety, motivational interviewing, goal setting, nutritional health, and Telehealth. I'm experienced working with bicultural/bilingual families, LGBTQ couples, college students, and adults struggling with anxiety and/or depression.
